British Sign Language is a visual means of communicating using gestures, facial expression and body language with its own vocabulary, grammar and syntax. It is not dependent upon or related to English and is used mainly by people who are Deaf or to support those who have a hearing loss.
This course introduces the student to basic communication with the Deaf community and builds confidence communicating and learning in groups
Level 1 Award in British Sign Language Qualifications is designed to teach learners to communicate with Deaf people in British Sign Language (BSL) on a range of topics that involve simple, everyday language. You will gain basic skills and confidence in production and reception of BSL.
This course is designed to enable you to develop an ability to communicate with Deaf people using BSL in a range of familiar contexts, participating in longer and more open conversation than at a beginner’s course.
This course is for anyone who wishes to learn some basic techniques of British Sign Language. You do not need any previous experience of British Sign Language to start this class, it will introduce you to techniques used to help you decide if you would like to progress to an accredited course.
