Course Details

Data analytics is all about finding useful information from large amounts of data, which helps businesses make smart decisions and grow. As more data is generated and used in today’s world, the demand for Data Analysts has increased significantly, showing how important data-driven decision-making is across different industries. This course will help develop your skills in statistics and analysis, teaching you how to manipulate and visualise data effectively.

Equivalent to one A Level in size, it is suitable for students looking to develop their applied knowledge and skills in Data Analytics as part of a study programme alongside A Levels. This course will take two years to complete.

Subject content

You will study three mandatory units:

  • Fundamentals of Data Analytics

  • Big Data with Machine Learning

  • Spreadsheet Data Modelling.

These units develop the fundamental knowledge required for a career working in data-related occupations as well as the skills and knowledge needed to developing spreadsheet modelling solutions that meet client needs.

You will study two of the following optional units:

  • Relational Database Design

  • Data and the Internet of Everything

  • Data Visualisation

  • Data and Digital Marketing.

Each of these units will help to further develop the skills and knowledge of data analytics by applying them to real-world situations and develop solutions to meet clients’ requirements.

Specific Entry Requirements

Average GCSE point score of 5 or above including GCSE Grade 5 in English Language and GCSE Grade 5 in Mathematics.

Equipment

  • You will need access to a computer to complete work outside of lessons.

Learning Methods

You will learn through a variety of methods including lectures, group activities, independent research and discussion.

Assessments

  • A combination of two externally assessed exam units and three internally assessed coursework units.
