You learn structure and vocabulary that allow you to function in everyday settings such as introducing yourself, discussing your family and your likes and dislikes.
You begin to understand complex language structures in an immersion classroom setting while learning to speak primarily in the present tense. Native-speaking instructors provide you with insight into the culture, traditions and etiquette of Japan. The Japanese writing system of hiragana is introduced at this level.

An introduction to foundational Japanese. Emphasis is placed on grammar, syntax, and writing, as well as aural/oral practice. Initially students will learn to read and write the hiragana syllabary followed by the katakana syllabary.
Our programs are specially designed to help students of all abilities and levels improve their language skills. Our tutors assess each student and design an individualized program to fit the student’s needs.
Japanese is offered at St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education Centers for all skill level.Â
