Students will learn basic conversational skills, numbers, days of the week, months of the year, introductory phrases, how to express one's interests, describe one's family, and how to form sentences using common adjectives, nouns, and verbs.
The goals of the Intermediate Courses are to develop the ability to understand conversational Japanese at natural speed, to express oneself accurately and smoothly in various situations, to read nontechnical materials at a reasonable speed with the use of a dictionary, to express oneself in writing with relative ease, and to understand Japanese culture through its language.

This course emphasizes oral expression, phonetics, and pronunciation. The Hiragana and Katakana writing systems, as well as some basic Kanji characters, will be introduced.
