Jazz is an exciting and ever-evolving dance form. Once the home of fan kicks and shimmies, modern ideas of Jazz (much like the music) incorporates a broad range once styles. Jazz can be traced back to African American dance and Caribbean traditional dance with early dancers such as Joe Frisco pioneering the style. It wouldn’t be until 1950 that pioneers like Katherine Dunham that Jazz Dance would emerge as a performing art and dominate the entertainment world industry.
In modern times, jazz dance takes many different forms and is performed in many different venues. In particular jazz dance thrives in dance schools and plays an integral role in musical theatre choreography. Jazz dance is sometimes combined with other dance styles as appropriate for the particular show.

The Next Step was established by Jason and Kris Lewis in 2003. The next step is the first group in the world to fuse Tap, Hip Hop, Break Dancing, Singing, Rapping and Live Original music together into a live stage show. The Next step has travelled the world entertaining. Some of their credits include performing for Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Elton John, MTV Awards, Splendour in the Grass, The Helpmann Awards and countless festivals and coporate events. These are just some of the accomplishments The Next Step have achieved in the years they have been together.
The Next Step is bringing their experience and all round talent together to create The Next Step Performing Arts, led and directed by Kris Lewis and Laura Webb. The Next Step Performing arts hopes to create a place where performers can grow and show their skills to the world. We offer classes for those students that just want to have fun and keep fit and also for those students that are looking at creating a career in the entertainment industry. We pride ourselves on creating a fun, friendly and supportive community.
At The Next Step Performing Arts we are offering classes for students aged 3 and over, in all styles of dance including Breakdancing and Acrobatics. We are also offering private lessons in all genres of Dance, Singing and Piano. We aim to bring to you the industry leaders in teaching and choreography, therefore keeping everything current and up to date with what is happening in the entertainment world now.
The newly renovated facilities offer 5 fully airconditioned Dance Studios with viewing windows, 1 Singing studio, Fully functioning reception, waiting area, toilet and shower facilities, kitchenette and a room for students to put their belongings during class.
Learn all the basics and have fun to all the latest music - age appropriate. Standing and floor exercises, travelling and stationary steps and great routines in each class. In Open Age class some dance experience is recommended. These classes are separated for 13+ & Adults.
Flexibility, strength and coordination are all benefits you gain from Jazz, learning technique such as kicks, leaps and turns but most of all, Jazz is simply great fun, dancing to all your favourite songs you hear on the radio today!
These grades are highly technical and skilful. Using the Ballet Australasia Syllabus students who reach this level have given complete dedication and hard work to their dancing.
These dance classes are lots of fun and are open to boys and girls from 3 years of age! These classes incorporate upbeat fast paced music, current dance moves and are great for fitness, fun and technical advancement. Exams are available for students from Test One and upwards.
