Northern Music Centre offers private tuition in a wide range of musical instruments, including piano, keyboard, saxophone, clarinet, flute, drums and many more.
We currently teach in excess of 450 students per week and have taught over 330,000 individual lessons since we opened in September 1996.
Our youngest student is 6, our oldest over 80! Over 40% of our students are adults – many starting to learn an instrument for the first time. We have seven dedicated teaching studios, each equipped with pianos, both acoustic and digital.
All tuition is given on a one-to-one basis. This allows the teacher to tailor the lesson to the individual student – working on the weaknesses and building on the strengths.
Most students have a 30 minute lesson each week. Some students, especially those who are working at an advanced level, or those who travel a distance to the Centre for their lessons, may require longer.
The NMC is an examination centre for both the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and Trinity College of Music. Students interested in entering for either practical or theory examinations are encouraged to do so. However, exams are not obligatory – many students preferring not to take this option.
Keyboard is great instruments to learn from an early age but it’s never too late to make a start. We teach all ages, all levels and all styles.
Keyboard classes are offered by Sheffield Music Academy.We provides specialist 1:1 instrumental tuition of 30, 45 or 60 minutes from a team of passionate and exceptional tutors who travel across the country each week to work with our students.Â

Pupils may start on electric keyboard from year 2. It may be more appropriate for lessons to be taken as a pair or individually but if resources allow, small group lessons are possible.
