This course is a progression from the Level 1 study programme to further develop skills in bricklaying. It’s about increasing trade skills to meet the needs of employers. The course consists of practical and theory and both parts of the course need to be successfully completed to achieve this qualification.
Employers will expect good attendance, good behaviour and good communication skills enabling you to interact with clients, work safely, using initiative as well as having bricklaying skills. As a College we will be reinforcing the values expected in industry to give students the skills to be successful in work and life.
Throughout the course the students will be assessed on their practical skills and their knowledge of the subject. To achieve this qualification you will have to successfully complete all seven units within the course along with an externally set Knowledge Test and a Practical Synoptic Profile. Students may also complete Functional Skills as part of this course; this aspect of the qualification may not be directly linked to the trade but will improve their wider education. Each student will be encouraged to take part in enrichment activities.

This short introductory course is aimed at those students wishing to gain some understanding and some practical experience of bricklaying.
You will learn the basic bricklaying techniques, skills and terminology used by a bricklayer. This introduction will give you the confidence to take your first steps into a career in bricklaying.
This Level 1 course is a mixture of practical and theory, with the majority of the time spent in the workshop, developing the hand skills needed to build cavity walls, solid walls, blockwork and the ability to transfer levels.
You’ll develop the skills and knowledge you need to enter the bricklaying trade within the construction industry. Covering both practical and theoretical aspects of the bricklaying trade, this course offers an ideal introduction to the sector.
This one-year course is designed to provide you with a basic knowledge and understanding of Bricklaying and to help you to develop a range of related skills.
