From PTLLS to AET

The AET (Award in Education and Training) course is the transformation of PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector). The change was made in 2013 to align the qualification with the QCF (Qualifications and Credit Framework), which replaced the NQF (National Qualifications Framework).

On the introduction of a new system for accrediting qualification, QCF required a change in the content and structure of the PTLLS course. Therefore, the AET course was designed to adapt to the updated content and assessment methods accommodating the latest developments in teaching and learning. The update in the course was made to ensure that learners have the necessary skills and knowledge required to become effective teachers and trainers.

The AET course is broader in scope than the PTLLS course, covering a wider range of teaching and training contexts, adult and community education, and work-based learning. Along with that, it has incorporated more rigorous assessment methods such as practical teaching observations.
