The Course in Detail
This is a short part-time beauty course which will provide you with the opportunity to learn and develop industry skills in the art of Swedish massage.
The course also covers anatomy and physiology to develop and provide an in-depth understanding of the human body, as part of your programme you will be required to complete essential homework for tasks. You will also learn health, safety and hygiene procedures.
You will learn:
Provide full body massage
The use of mechanical massage and infra red lamps
Health and safety in the salon
This is a practical course which includes theory and assessed practical skills.
You will need to submit portfolio demonstrating practical evidence and essential knowledge via assignments and tests.
Training at Southampton College will give you a huge advantage as you will learn in our purpose built hair and beauty salon, Kudos. You will learn with industry standard equipment working under supervision with real, paying clients to give you a wealth of experience.
Important Notice
Please note that all courses are subject to minimum numbers. If there are too few enrolments, the College may cancel the course. A place on your chosen course is not confirmed until enrolment is complete and any relevant fees are paid.
There is no funding available for this course, so all students will be required to pay the full course fee.
Additional Information
The beauty industry is a professional career with health and safety regulations set by City & Guilds; therefore, we have certain rules within the beauty salons that you must adhere to.
You will not be able to learn and work in our beauty salons without the following:
A clean and well-pressed salon standard uniform with closed-toe black shoes (no trainers)
If wearing make-up, it must be natural, understated make-up with no false eyelashes or false acrylic/gel nails
Hair to be securely tied back
No jewellery except a wedding band
Please note that uniforms are purchased through the college suppliers to ensure a high standard of presentation in our Kudos Hair and Beauty Salons.
What You'll Need
A good standard of spoken and written English is required
You will be required to evidence the highest English qualification you have achieved, or complete an online assessment to verify your current English working level
You will also be required to attend a short College interview prior to enrolling onto the course
A good standard of physical health is needed as beauty is often very physically demanding
This course is designed for over 19s
If you are a learner from the EU or have been an ESOL student will require a good standard of spoken English (Level 1 or above) so that you can hold a conversation with our wide client base

You may continue to develop your skills and complete any of the other beauty awards that we offer.
This will enable you to create your own massage business, work in a salon or a spa.

Contra-indications and aftercare advice
On this course you will learn how to perform massage treatments on Sports Injuries as well as to promote general wellbeing. You will learn to combine different forms of massage and provide essential tips and advice on stretching exercises to increase suppleness and relieve strain and tension.
