This 2-year course aims to develop an understanding of a broad range of skills and techniques which will enable you to progress further into higher education or be competent to start a successful career within the media industry.

What Will I Learn?

At the end of this course you will have developed a range of skills including:

• Make-up Application and Design for Performance • Hair Styling and Dressing for Performers • Production Units to include working on live productions • Period Hair and period Make-Up • Special Effects Make-up and Prosthetic Application • Fantasy hair Dressing • Body Art

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above (including Maths and English/Welsh first Language), or equivalent level 2 qualifications

Assessment

There is continuous assessment throughout the course for practical and written assignments. All units are internally assessed and externally moderated. On successful completion of this qualification an overall grade is given of Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Career Progression

Diplomas are valued by employers and higher Education Institutes, (Universities and colleges) Progression on to the HND Creative Production Arts (Make-Up Pathway) at Coleg Y Cymoedd followed by the BA (Hons) TV and Film: Hair, Make-up and Special Effects (Top up Year) Employment opportunities exist within the ever expanding Creative Industries (TV and Film) within South Wales.
