At False Bay, we pride ourselves on being a club that is always at the top of our game. Hence, our training sessions aim to keep our lifeguards both in good shape for the voluntary duty season and fit and conditioned for the competitive aspect of lifesaving.
In season, our selected coaches take training sessions about three times per week- on Sundays and two evening sessions during the workweek. These sessions vary in nature from strength and conditioning, general fitness or surf and beach specific training.
Along with the many other facets of our establishment, our training sessions truly promote the sense of clubmanship and zeal within our members.
One can always expect a high intensity although fun session with the False Bay crew, which caters for all levels of fitness- from foundation levels all the way to the top echelons of the lifesaving scene.
Training sessions are usually held at the False Bay Clubhouse in the “dungeon”, which is truly unique in the sphere of lifesaving.
Our training is always performed in groups or in a competitive sporting manner, which really brings out the best in members. Needless to say, the morale after training sessions are always high and there is nothing better than a relaxing team swim to end things and recoup.
False Bay Surf Lifesaving Club has been actively patrolling Muizenberg Beach, Cape Town and preventing drowning for over 50 years.
Established in 1959, we are a registered non-profit voluntary organisation focussed on training lifeguards from our community using international lifesaving benchmark standards to watch over beachgoers and make sure the general public is safe while enjoying their time at the beach.
To this point, we have adopted the global lifesaving motto of “vigilance and service” in our everyday operations.
These are interactive water safety skills development and out reach programs which cater for children of all ages. The programs are very flexible and can be presented in either a classroom, swimming pool, open water or ocean environments.

Lifeguard training is offered by Linden Lifesaving Club. Lifeguards are there to keep water users safe and prevent drowning by patrolling on a voluntary basis at events that are related to water.
Lifeguard training is offered by Lifesaving South Africa Lifeline for all skill level. Lifesaving South Africa is an internationally renowned lifesaving organisation. The essential service provides excellent standards of leadership and lifeguard training.
The open water Lifeguard Award is the standard qualification required to perform lifeguard duties on rivers, lakes, and dams, be those in a voluntary or professional role.
