Course Details

There is a growing awareness amongst executives and line managers around the impact of mental health on employee performance, productivity, and profitability, as well as the related impact thereof on the organisation as a whole - especially given the renewed emphasis on the mental health and wellness of employees in the wake of the recent pandemic.

The Managing Mental Health and Wellness at Work (MMHWW) course explores the meaning, importance, and management of mental health in the workplace - drawing on rich insights from a panel of experts and thought leaders at Stellenbosch Business School. It aims to inform organisational leadership about the aspects of mental health and wellness, enabling them to formulate supportive approaches to manage mental health issues and implement preventative measures to limit corporate mental health threats. It makes them aware of the major health partitions of mental health, how barriers to mental health discussions can be broken, and how one should handle different situations in the workplace. It thus speaks to the broad cross-functional leadership body.

The course also deals with the five mental health challenges that cost organisations the most. It helps managers / leaders to develop the ability to understand these challenges, identify them, and appropriately handle the situations. For example: If you have an employee dealing with depression, how can you recognise it, and, if you don’t, what is it going to cost you? The course is thus commercially focused.
