This course is designed for people who carry out manual handling in their day-to-day work, and is relevant to all industries and workplaces. It is suitable for warehouse, construction and office based staff.

 

What you’ll learn:

Manual handling grievances related to back sprains and strains are a leading cause of workplace injuries in New Zealand and cost millions of dollars in lost productivity annually. Further more, determinants of risk injury may vary greatly, being influenced by factors such as the nature, environment and even location of the industry.

This workshop will arm you with an understanding of your responsibilities under the HSW Act and give you a functional overview of the mechanisms of injuries and strategies for controlling the risk of workplace harm.

 

After, you’ll be able to

  • Understand the responsibilities related to manual handling under the HSWAct.
  • Become familiar with the spinal structure and function.
  • Understand the risk factors for occupational back injury in your particular industry and environment.
  • Demonstrate back care techniques.
  • Establish workplace control measures to reduce back injuries.
  • Practically demonstrating functional movement patterns associated with basic manual handling techniques can lead to harm.
