About the Program
This 565-contact hour course combines classroom lecture with a literal "hands-on" laboratory setting, including 50 hours of clinical work. Students who successfully complete the course are prepared to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) exam for licensure as a massage therapist in the State of Texas and are qualified to:
Assess clients' soft tissue condition, joint quality, and range of motion
Develop and propose specific massage treatment plans after consultation
Use complementary treatments including infrared lamps, wet compresses, and whirlpool baths
Prepare and blend oils for use in therapeutic massage
The Massage Therapy CE Certificate consists of nine (9) required course sections:
MSSG-1011 Fundamentals I
MSSG-1009 Health and Hygiene
MSSG-1013 Anatomy & Physiology for Massage
MSSG-1005 Hydrotherapy
MSSG-2014 Pathology for Massage
MSSG-2011 Fundamentals II
MSSG-1007 Business Practices and Professional Ethics
MSSG-2013 Kinesiology for Massage
MSSG-2086 Internship for Massage Therapy
After successful completion of the above required courses, Massage Therapy students must also:
Take and pass the Massage Board Licensing Exam (MBLEX).
Take and pass TDLR's Jurisprudence Exam.
Apply to TDLR to become a Licensed Massage Therapist.
Get fingerprinted, TDLR will advise applicants on how to complete this task, once they have applied.
