Master of Science (MSc)
Who is this course for?

  • It’s likely you’ll have a scientific or financial engineering background as the course covers quantitative risk assessment in depth, which requires an aptitude for measuring and analysing data.
  • This MSc is for those planning a career in managing the introduction of capital goods or applying the latest project management techniques to complex projects.

Modules:

  • 8 in total
  • Core modules: 6

Elective modules: 2

  • Full-time: attend all the taught modules during terms 1 and 2 and complete your dissertation project within the 12-month period of the degree.
  • Part-time: attend half the modules in a first 12-month period, followed by the other half the next year and complete your dissertation project in the second year.

Modules

  • The course is delivered in the form of block teaching where students usually need to attend up to five days for each Module. Teaching takes place during day (09:00 to 18:00).
  • You are normally required to complete all the taught modules successfully before progressing to the dissertation.

Dissertation (60 credits)

The dissertation provides you with an opportunity to explore a topic in depth. The dissertation will prepare you to acquire sufficient knowledge in research skills and to explore solutions to complex problems, which may fall outside the scope of taught material.

Teaching and assessment

  • You will learn across a variety of lectures, tutorials, guided private study, group activities, and coursework.
  • There are four core modules and two electives. From the two electives you can choose four or five topics including games theory, perspectives on management and leadership and entrepreneurship, innovations and enterprise.
  • The course is organised so that each module is taught in a block of four days followed by tutorial support, guided private study, coordinating activities, and coursework.
  • You can also participate in a rolling programme of one-day events to build your communication and team-building skills. These sessions cover topics including conducting research, improving your presentation skills and dealing with people.
  • A Prince 2 Project Management Foundation Course leading to certification once you’ve passed an on-line exam is offered in the summer term. Training for the more advanced Practitioner’s certification will also be provided.
