Music Theatre is a form of theatre that combines songs, spoken dialogue, acting, and dance. Students learn pieces from popular musicals

Dance Central’s Music Theatre program is conducted in two parts, one vocal section and one dance section.  Music Theatre classes are appropriate for students over the age of 8 years.

If you’ve always enjoyed watching the musicals at the Empire Theatre and want to learn what its all about then these classes are for you!

  • Senior Music Theatre and Open Music Theatre Vocals Originally from Dubbo, Cherie graduate with Honours in Music from University of Southern Queensland in 2006 and has completed a Diploma in Performance through the International Examination Music Board. Her role credits include ‘Miss Grace’ in Annie, ‘Lucy’ in The Telephone, ‘Lucy’ in The Begger’s Opera, ‘Julie’ in Carousel, ‘Despina’ in Cosi fan tutte, ‘Mabel’ in The Pirates of Penzance, ‘Tuptim’ in King and I, ‘Carlotta’ in The Phantom of the Opera and ‘Fabulous Singlettes’ in Essgee’s The Pirates of Penzance. On the concert platform, Cherie has been a guest artist in ‘The Seasons’ by Haydn, ‘Gloria’ by Vivaldi, ‘Elijah’ by Mendelssohn, and ‘Messiah’ by Handel, World Premiere of Elana Kats-Chernin ‘Lillian’s Aria’ and many other local and interstate concerts. Cherie finds great enjoyment in helping other performers reach their potential, working with local performers as Director (Cinderella Jr, Annie Jr, Godspell, Aida, Grease) and Vocal Coach (Annie, Little Shop of Horrors, Mary Poppins, Evita, Legally Blonde, Grease, Wicked). Cherie also keeps busy with her vocal studio, choral conductor at St. Ursula’s College and conductor at The Toowoomba Philharmonic Society.

We offer a bi-annual musical theatre production opportunity to students enrolled in at least one dance class and that are a minimum of 8 years of age. An audition is held early in term 1 to select parts for the annual production. Our next production will be in 2021.
