Course Description
This introductory qualification will give learners a basic understanding of childcare and education, parenting and babysitting. It will also help them to make an informed choice about working with children and young people.
The units are a combination of mandatory and optional, giving greater flexibility to learners and Tutors when deciding on a programme of study and maximising learner achievement.
The aim of this qualification is to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of
babies and young children from birth to 5 years of age.
Learners will be encouraged to participate working and or volunteering in an industry practical placement to show competence in both knowledge and skills. We recommend learners to complete one day a week industry placement followed by block weeks designated during the course of the year.
What units/topics will be studied?
To gain this qualification Learners must achieve a minimum of 16 credits for the Certificate. 9 credits must be achieved at Level 2 and a further 7 credits must be achieved at either Level 1 or 2

What do I need to study for this subject?
4 GCSE’s at grade 3, including English and Maths
What can I do to prepare myself to study?
Visit an early years setting such as a private Nursery, a Children’s Centre or a Pre-school
Read child development books and journals or watch child development TV programmes
