The qualification covers the practical issues of managing environmental risk. The syllabus takes a risk management approach, based around best practice and international industry standards, including:

  • Foundations in environmental management

  • Environmental management systems

  • Assessing environmental aspects and impacts

  • Planning for and dealing with environmental emergencies

  • Controls of emissions to air

  • Control of environmental noise

  • Control of contamination of water sources

  • Control of waste and land use

  • Sources and use of energy and energy efficiency

This qualification is for anyone who needs to gain a sound understanding of the principles of environmental management and is relevant for Canada and international markets.

For some, the NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate is a crucial first step towards establishing a lifelong professional career in environmental management.

Many who take their Environmental Certificate progress on to a NEBOSH Environmental Diploma.Around two thirds of health and safety practitioners now have environmental management as part of their overall day-to-day responsibilities at work.

Course Modes And Duration

  • Classroom course at a company's location 6 days
  • Live virtual course in zoom 9 three-hour webinars

  • Online Course e-learning 70 hours (up to 9 months of online course access)

Examinations

The assessments is broken down into two exams:

Unit EMC1: Environmental Management

Students will be required to review a real-life scenario and answer theoretical and practical questions on environmental management. This examination is be downloaded, completed, and submitted in 24 hours.

Unit EMC2: Assessing Environmental Aspects And Associated Impacts

This is a practical exam. Students need to assess environmental aspects and impacts in their chosen workplace.

International Certificate

All results for assessments should be received within 50 working days from the date of the examination or submission of the practical assessment. 

Once a learner has achieved a Pass in both units and the qualification grade has been declared, a qualification parchment will be issued, usually within 40 working days of the result declaration date

Course Pre-requisites

There are no pre-requisite requirements for this qualification. No prior knowledge of environmental management is needed. 

For non-native speakers it is important to have a suitable standard of the English language in order to understand and articulate the concepts contained in the syllabus.
