Course Details

Operate Breathing Apparatus aims to provide candidates with the skills and knowledge required to operate and maintain breathing apparatus and equipment in an irrespirable atmosphere, as defined by the Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009 Selection, use and maintenance of respiratory protective equipment.

Operate Breathing Apparatus is suitable for persons who are required to wear breathing apparatus for entry to confined spaces with potentially toxic environments, and/or may be required to respond to emergency situations. There are no prerequisites for this course.

 

Description:

 

This course is delivered through classroom presentations, activities and participant discussion as well as practical components within a simulated workplace environment using specialised equipment. Trainees will demonstrate their competence through direct observation, oral &/or written assessment & practical exercises.

 

Upon successful completion trainees will be issued with a Statement of Attainment in MSMWHS216 Operate Breathing Apparatus:

  • Operate breathing apparatus
  • Equipment and pre-donning inspections
  • Correct donning of breathing apparatus
  • Use of Breathing Apparatus in emergencies and/or first response situations
  • Cleaning, maintenance and storage of Breathing Apparatus
