Occupational health and safety (OSH) in the workplace, especially in small and medium enterprises (SMEs), is an aspect that needs to be given full attention by employers. This is because the activities carried out at the workplace can create the risk of dangerous incidents, accidents, injuries, and deaths not only to employees but also to the general public who are in the workplace area.
In 2016, the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) developed the Strategic Plan for Occupational Safety and Health in the Small and Medium Industries Sector 2016–2020 (IKS 2020).
This strategic plan is drawn up until the year 2020 to improve occupational health and safety management in the SME sector so that the vision of implementing a culture of prevention in the workplace is achieved.
One of the specific programs planned through Strategy 6 IKS 2020 is to increase the number of KKP practitioners. Every SME needs to appoint at least one employee as an Occupational Safety and Health Coordinator (OSH Coordinator) to manage OSH matters.
Among the OSH Coordinator's responsibilities are to help employers report OSH status to JKKP, administer OSH documents, promote OSH culture, and take action-related actions.
In relation to that, in order to determine the qualifications of the OSH Coordinator, JKKP has decided that the OSH Coordinator must be someone who has successfully completed the prescribed course conducted by a teaching center registered with JKKP.
