Course Content
The course will comprise theoretical and practical instruction covering the following:
Understanding basic lift plan
Health & Safety at Work Act, 1974
Operator safety code, Lifting Operations & Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER)
Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations (MHSWR)
The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations & Code of practice for safe use of cranes, inspection, testing and examination 7121
Component Parts and Pre-use checks
Basic training (including basic slinging)
Statutory requirements
Course Outcome Knowledge
On completion of training candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:
Basic lifting plans

Skill
On completion of training the candidate will be able to:
Basic lift plans
Pre-use checks
Start, stop procedures
Traversing forwards and in reverse using all gear ratios and all ranges where applicable
Operate all controls safely and sympathetically
Prepare/set-up the crane to carry out normal work
Carry out normal work tasks safely and efficiently
Understand basic signalling requirement and load swings
Course Requirements
PPE (Ear Defenders, Goggles, Hi-Visibility Clothing, Overalls, Safety Boots, Gloves) as is necessary.
Note: It is strongly recommended that candidates responsible for regular slinging operations should attend a recognised slinger/signaller course.
