The course includes hands-on practice with live models, focusing on both venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. Ideal for healthcare professionals and those entering the field, this course ensures proficiency in performing blood draws with precision and confidence, adhering to the highest standards of patient care and safety.

Theory Includes:

• Anatomy and physiology relevant to blood collection

• First Aid – Including CPR and EpiPen in anaphylactic shock

• Vein anatomy and blood flow

• Types of blood collection techniques and their indications

• Safety protocols for blood collection and handling

• Pre and post-procedure protocols

• Client consultation protocols, including medical history and consent

• Managing patient expectations and handling complaints

• Pain management strategies during blood collection

• Hygiene, sharps disposal, and legal aspects of phlebotomy

Practical Includes:

• Live demonstrations

• Live models

Techniques Covered:

• Venipuncture techniques (e.g., median cubital vein, cephalic vein, basilic vein)

• Capillary puncture

• Collection tube handling and labeling

• Complications and troubleshooting

What pre-requisites do I need to perform this?

As this Phlebotomy Course utilises injectables, it is only suitable if you are certified in performing such treatments. You may be certified if you are one of the following:

• A nurse

• A Doctor of Medicine

• A pharmacist

• A dental nurse

• A paramedic

• An SPMU/Aesthetic Practitioner with 6 months+ or a Learner with the new Level 3 IQ Award.
