The Phlebotomy Training Course provides the background required to properly understand the techniques involved in phlebotomy. It includes basic knowledge in human anatomy, the functions of the clinical laboratory, principles of infection control, personnel protection and relevant techniques in properly performing phlebotomy.

Participants are also expected to learn the different medical and legal aspects involved in phlebotomy. This will enable them to perform the procedure safely and efficiently.

 

Course Objectives

At the end of the Phlebotomy Training Course, the participants will acquire knowledge and understanding of the following:

  • Define phlebotomy and know the duties and the job skills it requires.

  • Describe the clinical laboratory, its sub-sections and the type of specimens required by these sections.

  • Identify procedure hazards and employ measures to avoid injuries and accidents.

  • Explain the chain of infection and apply its principles to prevent infection transfer to other patients and personnel.

  • Describe the human anatomy, specifically the integumentary, blood and cardiovascular system.

  • Perform the steps of the phlebotomy procedure.

  • Identify the post-procedure complications and employ techniques to manage them.

  • Describe the procedures involved when collecting special specimens.

  • Discuss the principles of proper specimen transport.
