Course Details

The pbhdn programme provides structured training in the renal specialty for the dialysis nurses as haemodialysis requires specialised nursing care. This 6-month programme aims to equip nurses with the knowledge and competencies to respond effectively to the demands of the kidney failure patients. 

Our Training Centre has been conducting the Post Basic Haemodialysis Nursing (PBHDN) Programme since 2005 and has attained the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) Accreditation since 2017 for this programme.

Entry Requirements

  • Possess Diploma in Nursing from a recognised institution by Malaysian Nursing Board (MNB).
  • Registered with the MNB.
  • Possess current Annual Practicing Certificate (APC) for nurses from MNB.
  • Minimum two (2) years clinical working experience.
  • The candidate must be certified medically fit by a registered medical practitioner within one (1) month from commencement of the programme.
  • A person with any of the following shall be disqualified from entry into a nursing programme:
  • Serious physical or mental illness, and/or
  • Serious communicable disease
  • The candidate must not have any physical disabilities or impaired senses that hinder nursing dexterity.
  • Pregnancy is not allowed throughout the course.

Programme Modules

  • Clinical Nephrology
  • Psychosocial Aspects and Professionalism in Nephrology Nursing
  • Clinical Aspects in Nephrology Nursing
  • Technical Aspects in Haemodialysis Nursing
  • Care of Patient in Haemodialysis
  • Clinical Practice – 3 months

Since the course kicked-off in 2005, there are more than 1000 staff nurses and assistant medical officers who have successfully completed the course with 100% passes to date.

Activity Highlights

  • Clinical experience will be gained primarily at NKF centres under local preceptors.
  • An educational visit to water treatment plant will also be arranged for the students.
  • Attachment to government hospitals under the Ministry of Health of Malaysia for 4 weeks.

Upon course completion, Certificate of Post Basic Haemodialysis Nursing will be awarded.
