Course Details

Specialist Dr. Todd Yip and two nurses Specialized in Wound Ostomy and Continence, Nancy Delarge and Stephanie Webster, will guide participants through three skills stations in an open learning style with pre-brief, debrief, and Q&A.

The three stations will include topics of wound assessment, dressings, and wound debridement using volunteer patients.

Skills Gained

After attending this session, learners will be able to:

  • Assess the type and severity of various complex and/or chronic wounds
  • Describe the use and indications for various common wound dressings
  • Identify the most appropriate and practical dressings to have available in a primary care environment
  • Manage complex and/or chronic wounds including simple debridement.

  • 6:15-6:30pm: Break/Transition to Next Skills Station
  • 6:30-7:15 Skills Station 2 (Dressings)
  • 7:15-7:30: Break/Transition to Next Skills Station
  • 7:30-8:15: Skills Station 3 (Debridement and other interventions)
  • 8:15-8:30: Skills Station Post-Brief

Format

This 3-hour accredited course will be held in person at the Diagnostic and Treatment Centre at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC.
