This module offers comprehensive knowledge and skills in electrical engineering for practising engineers, emphasising design considerations for responsibility, safety, the environment, and sustainability.
This module provides participants with in-depth knowledge and competency in selected topics in electrical engineering from the perspective of practising engineers.
It covers design considerations for societal responsibilities, public safety, the environment, and sustainability in the electrical engineering context. This module also aims to broaden and deepen the participants’ knowledge and skills and stay relevant in the electrical engineering industry.
Who Should Attend
Graduate engineers preparing for the electrical Professional Practice Exam (PPE) paper of the Professional Engineers Board, Singapore
Practising engineers who wish to gain in-depth knowledge and competency in the selected topics in electrical engineering
Graduates of SIT-NU BEng Electrical Power Engineering (EPE) programme
Prerequisites
Bachelor degree in Engineering
At least one-year of relevant working experience
What You Will Learn
Professional engineering practices
Understanding and putting into practice ethics, safety, societal considerations and engineering standards in the design and management of electrical projects
Design for safety
Conducting health and safety risk assessment to design electrical installations for prevention of hazards arising from electric shock, arc flash, over current, thermal effects and exposure to the electromagnetic field, to comply with relevant standards
Electromagnetic compatibility and functional safety
Understanding the principles and theories of EMC and EMI coupling mechanisms, and the application of techniques and measures to achieve functional safety
Lightning protection system
Understanding the nature and characteristics of the lightning phenomenon
Application of standards for lightning risk assessment and the design of lightning protection systems for structure and low voltage systems
Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
Attend at least 75% of the module; and
Undertake non-credit bearing assessment during the course
A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to participants who:
Attend at least 75% of the module; and
Undertake and pass credit bearing assessment during the course
