Topics covered include dealing with anxiety, knowing your audience, patterns of organization, research techniques, rehearsal techniques, non-verbal communication, and the use of visual aids.
The student makes presentations to the class. Other activities include communication games, debates, impromptu speeches, and formal talks.

Recently, Volunteer Victoria’s Emerging Leaders Network offered a five-week public speaking course to a small group of individuals made up of mostly ELN members.
It provides the rhetorical principles of effective and ethical public speaking, offers opportunities to become familiar with different speaking situations, and attempts to instil a sense of the importance of public speech.
