This course involves making a lady's dress / top using the Made by Rae Ruby pattern. The class is costed based on the shift dress version. If you would like to make the top, you will have plenty of fabric for doing that instead.
Construction is fairly simple, so the class is suitable for a novice sewer, or for someone more experienced who would like to do some dressmaking in a sociable environment.
We will also be lining the dress using "the burrito method", which is a variation not found on the pattern, and which is a skill which can be transferred to other lined garments.
On the first day of the class, you will choose your fabric, trace your pattern, cut out, and make a start on assembly. Faster sewers may actually finish on the first day, as construction is very simple. For those that need it, a second day has been scheduled, to ensure that everyone leaves with a completed garment.
As we are working from a commercial pattern, the dress is available to make in the following sizes:
Adult size XXS to 3XL (bust 29.5" to 48")
A good range of 100% cottons will be provided for you to choose from. You will also take away an original paper pattern.
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and homemade cake are included.
This is an all-day course, so you will need to either bring a packed lunch, or buy something from a local shop on the day.
