Safely Erect And Dismantle Scaffolding

This scaffold erecting course is designed for both novice and experienced erectors who may be expected to erect, use and mismantle scaffolds while performing their daily duties in the working environment.

Learners who achieve the course objectives will, upon completion, be able to identify various scaffolds and components, understand legislative and SABS standards, apply scaffold safety and determine the stores required, foundation preparation and inspections on components before erection.

Course Content:

• Getting to know scaffolding, identifying scaffold types and different components
  • We discuss the common types of scaffolds used in industry and their basic components.
• Legislation: Construction Regulations 2003 Act 21 and SANS 10085 – 2004
• Scaffold safety
• Determining stores required; site preparation and scaffold foundations
• Component inspections
  • We show learners how to carry out inspections on Kwikstage and self-lock scaffolds, including tube and fitting inspections.
• Erecting and dismantling scaffolds
  • We instruct learners how to erect and dismantle heavy, medium and light scaffolds.
• Scaffold inspections
  • We show learners how to carry out scaffold inspections, issue remedial instructions and confirm changes have been made and record details in an inspection register.
• Use of ladders
  • We discuss safety precautions with ladders, as well as how to use ladders within the confines of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
