Course Details

Self Contained Breathing Apparatus refresher is a required very 6 months as by Part VII Section 88(1-5) of the Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

 

SCBA Skills Assissment Cheacklist

 Pre-Use Inspection

Facepiece Inspection

  • Clean and in good condition

  • Facepiece seal checked

  • Nose cup checked to be installed correctly and complete

  • Condition of the lens (scratch free and clean)

  • Head harness straps extended, clean and in good condition

  •  Voice emitter and exhalation valve work and are in good, clean condition

Air Supply

  • Is the cylinder at full pressure

  • Check cylinder condition (gouges, scratches, dents, chemical damage)

Visual Inspection of Regulator Assembly

  • High pressure connection complete, threads checked and hand tight on cylinder

  • Check high pressure hose, is it in good condition

  • Check low pressure hose, good condition, and good connections

  • Shoulder gauge in good condition and reading zero pressure

  • Low pressure regulator, clean, seal in good condition, bypass turns freely and is closed

Operational Inspection of Regulator Assembly

  • Is the doff switch closed

  • charge the lines and check shoulder gauge, is it in within 10%

  • bypass valve check, does the air flow through

  • low pressure alarm check

  • close the bypass when done

Visual Harness Inspection

  • Is the frame in good shape

  • is the cylinder securely attached to the harness

  • Check that all straps are fully extended, clean and in good condition

  • Are all fasters and attachment points in good condition

SCBA Donning

  • Put on cylinder and adjust the harness

  •  Put on the facepiece, chin in chin cup, head harness as far down the back of the skull

  •  Tighten harness straps

  •  Negative pressure test (hand or regulator can be used), exhale to check exhalation valve

  •  Open cylinder valve, (connect regulator if necessary) and breath

  •  test the bypass valve

  •  Minimum 5 breath cycles through the facepiece

  •  close cylinder valve

  •  remove regulator

  •  extend facepiece straps and remove

  •  extend SCBA harness straps and remove SCBA

  •  complete a post use inspection and store back in the appropriate place
