This course is suitable for students who have completed a beginners course. Below is only a suggestion of techniques and will be adapted to suit individual abilities/needs. Students wishing to join this course should be confident using a sewing machine and have done some previous sewing, even if it was a while ago.
The nature of this course will offer guidance at various levels in dress making and soft furnishing; students can choose to work independently or in small groups with tutor support.
Whilst there are suggested techniques students are expected to come along with a project they wish to complete during the term and or skills they wish to develop/refine.
Modules may include
Recap on previous techniques learnt/brushing up on cutting and construction skills e.g - - Simple top and sleeve (toile) - Interpreting commercial patterns and terminology - Mastering complex techniques including: Zips: invisible/fly front, pockets, manipulation methods e.g: gathering, pleats, shaping, lining, collars/cuffs. - Alterations, adaptations and correct fit - Drafting basic blocks to fit individual sizes - Toile making, simple pattern adaptations/cutting

Would you like to take your sewing to the next level? Perhaps you’ve already made a few dresses and even completed some trickier projects and now you’re ready to develop your basic machine sewing skills to professional standard.
Sewing classes are offered by Mrs V’s Sewing Bee for adults of all skill level. Individual lessons or classes for small groups of adults.
With very little or no sewing experience, this adult beginner’s class is designed to help you make a project from scratch. Want to create your own clothes but the thought of dressmaking patterns terrifies you? We will guide you through from start to finish.
Sewing classes are offered by A61 Woodseats Sewing Machines Ltd for beginners. All lessons will be on a one to one basis and will last as long as you need the help. We promise by the time you leave the shop you will be feeling happy and confident about using your machine!
Learn the basic skills of reading and cutting out a pattern, taking measurements, making a toile, and samples e.g. Â seams, pockets, collars, cuffs etc. Â Using modern machines and overlockers to construct and finish the garment.Â
