Students on this course have the option to specialise in our Sports Academies; Future Elite Football or Leicester Tigers Rugby.
Throughout the course of study, SMB students will be exposed to state of the art, industry leading coaching software and technology and gain first-hand experience in applying newly learned skills to professional organisations.
What will I learn?
Year 1 Modules include: Careers in Sport and Active Leisure Industry; Health, Wellbeing and Sport; Developing Coaching Skills; Sport Development; Self Employment in Sport and Physical Activity; Practical Sports Application.
Year 2: Influence of Technology in Sport and Physical Activity; Research Project in Sport; Applied Coaching Skills; Anatomy & Physiology in Sport; Technical and Tactical Skills in Sport; Sports Psychology.
Where could this course lead to?
Upon completion of the course, students will be able to competently apply their skills within the sports sector. Succesful completion of our Level 3 Extended Diploma allows students to progress on to University. SMB College Group offers various Sports Science Degree courses at the Brooksby Campus.
What qualifications or experience do I need?
5 GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above including English, or Level 2 Sport (or similar) and Level 1 Functional Skills. If you miss the English and/or Maths requirements of your course, don't worry - there are options to study these alongside your course.

This qualification has been specifically designed to develop the knowledge and skills to prepare you for employment within the Childcare sector.
The Course will enable learners to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding required to perform effectively in a range of physical activities, and will enhance their physical well being.
This is a 2 year course equivalent to 3 A Levels. Learners will spend 80% of their time in the classroom and 20% in industry placements (9 weeks minimum, which is equivalent to approximately 750 industry placement hours).
Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET) programmes are the recognised teaching qualification for the post-16 sector. You can become a post-16 teacher in England without a teaching qualification, but it’s a definite advantage to have one, as many employers expect them.
