The STA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator qualification is a four-hour course designed for those who may be required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use an automated external defibrillator (AED).
This qualification is suitable for learners from a variety of industries and employment situations who work within a building where an AED is present and are required to be trained in its use as per HSE recommendations.
The Learner
The STA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator course provides learners with the skills to deliver lifesaving CPR and safely use of an AED on a patient. Learners may work or volunteer in an environment where there’s a high risk of sudden cardiac arrest and an AED unit is on site.
This qualification provides an ideal further training opportunity for a learner who already holds a first aid or lifesaving qualification, but needs specialised AED training. The skills learned are transferable across a range of industries and therefore appeals to a wide range of learners.
Who does this qualification appeal to?
Learners may complete this qualification as a stepping stone to a career specifically in first aid such as a first aid tutor, alternatively they may undertake this qualification to compliment another role.

This course carries a 2-year validity period, the learner is required to complete a new STA Level 2 Award in Basic Life Support and Safe Use of an Automated External Defibrillator course before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified.
