Course Details

CELTA is an initial teacher training course, though you may already have some teaching experience. It's an internationally recognised qualification that gives you the skills to become an English language teacher and is ideal if you're looking for a new career opportunity. Teaching practice is a main component of the course.

Entry Requirements
CELTA is open to native and non-native speakers of English, but the course requires a good level of analytical awareness of the language as well as a high level of written and spoken English.

Non-native speakers should normally already have the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) qualification or equivalent. This course is for students 20 years old and over. You need to have two A-levels or a degree (or equivalent). If you have recent experience of learning a second or additional language this might be an advantage.

Course Structure
This course covers:

  • Analysis of English from a foreign learner's point of view

  • Development of language skills, resources, lesson planning, teaching, pronunciation and classroom management

  • Input sessions on language awareness and methodology, observed teaching practice and observation of experienced teachers.

Assessment Details
A portfolio of coursework and observation of teaching practice.
