The Basic Worksite Traffic Management & Traffic Controller (BWTM & TC)  is a mandatory requirement to work on roads and control traffic within WA.

The course provides participants the theory and practical skills required to implement traffic management and control traffic for works on roads, ensuring traffic flow is maintained and the safety risk to all road users and workers is minimised.

The course is delivered face to face and training includes classroom activities, theory questionnaires, group activities, implementing traffic signs and conducting traffic control using real live road environments.

Assessments include theory questionnaires, practical application and observation using a range of locations and scenarios. This course is ideal for a wide variety of job roles such as Traffic Controllers, General Labourers, Landscapers, Plant Operators, Site Supervisors and Project Managers.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Set up, monitor and close down traffic control devices according to a TMP/TGS, to WHS and legislative requirements
  • Stop and direct road users using a stop/slow bat and understand stopping sight distances
  • Communicate with others and operate a two-way radio correctly and effectively
  • Carry out risk assessments for personal safety and plan for emergencies that may arise
  • Identify risks/hazards and safety implications of traffic control at road works and personal responsibilities
  • Adapt to all Work Health and Safety (WHS) and operational requirements
  • Understand speed, environment, type and class of vehicles, sight lines and environmental conditions
