If you wish to establish a career in the travel and tourism industry then this course is for you. You will have the opportunity to explore one of the world’s most dynamic and fast-growing industries.
This course is designed to give you a practical insight into the travel and tourism industry potentially leading to level 3 travel and tourism courses. You will gain a wide range of knowledge within this qualification, enabling you to work successfully in a range of jobs in the travel and tourism industry.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
This is a practical, work-related course and involves the completion of projects, assignments and activities. You will study modules in customer service, selling skills, UK travel and tourism destinations and travel planning. The course also offers a tutorial system to help with your work and planning. You may want to find a related part-time job, which will give you an insight into modern business methods which you could then use for your work experience.
If you are aged 16 to 18, you will be enrolled on a study programme. This will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above.
You will take part in activities that help you to develop your skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career.
If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
For other age groups, activities will be tailored to your needs.
Entry Requirements
Entry to this course requires one reference. You should demonstrate 90% attendance in your last place of study or work. A GCSE in both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above is required.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
How you will be assessed
There will be a variety of assessment methods such as report writing, leaflets, PowerPoint presentations, role plays and displays.

You will study a range of units covering customer service, UK tourism, international tourist destinations and working overseas. You will also complete a work placement during the programme, gaining valuable experience in a travel and tourism related organisation.
