Overview

Understanding Mental Health in the Early Years Cache Level 2 Certificate

This qualification is designed for learners who wish to understand mental health in young children in the early years (from birth to 5 years old) and the role of the Early Years Practitioner to support children’s mental health and wellbeing. This is a knowledge-based qualification.

Through achieving this qualification, learners will develop knowledge which would support progression to further qualifications and into relevant employment in the health and social care or education sectors.

This qualification supports professional development to those working with children to further enhance knowledge of mental health in children.

Workbased Learning allows students the benefits of gaining a recognised qualification whilst working. All students will have access to an e-portfolio with supporting resources and online lessons as well as the benefit of a one to one allocated assessor on hand to support your learning journey.

Entry requirements

Essential:

Learners must be aged 16 or over.

Learners do not need to be working in an early years setting, as this is a knowledge only qualification, however experience will be beneficial.

What qualification will I gain?

  • NCFE CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health in the Early Years.

How will I be assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, projects, and professional discussions.

Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a variety of assessment tasks including assignment, online learning and activities. All assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit the individual needs of the learner.

Course content

What will I study?

This qualification aims to:

  • focus on the study of mental health within the context of young children in the early years

  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • understand key issues surrounding mental health for young children in the early years

  • understand the significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences for young children in the early years

  • understand the role of the Early Years Practitioner supporting mental health and wellbeing for young children in the early years

Learners will complete 3 mandatory units, within a 6 month period, these are:

  • Unit 01  – Understand mental health for young children in the early years

  • Unit 02 – Understand the significance of attachment and adverse childhood experiences for young children in the early years

  • Unit 03 – Understand the role of the early years practitioner supporting mental health and wellbeing for young children in the early years

This qualification supports professional development to those working with children to further enhance knowledge of mental health in children.

Please note, this is not a full and relevant Level 2 which can be included in Adult; Child Ratios in a setting or give a Licence to Practice. Please see Level 3 Diploma for Early Years Practitioner.
