Greenwood Days started in 1994 by me (Peter Wood) as a small woodland workshop where I could teach pole lathe turning. I’ve been lucky enough to travel the country demonstrating my craft at country shows and craft fairs where I met and became friends with a resurging number of skilled crafts people who were ‘rediscovering’ traditional craft. My little woodland workshop soon became a place where I could promote these crafts by inviting my friends to come and teach their crafts.
Learn to model portrait & full pose clay life sculptures. Working from a variety of life models and poses, develop observation skills, individual expression, clay modelling and clay preparation techniques for firing.
Clay is such a versatile medium to work in. It can be used in many different ways to give a range of tactile and practical experiences - we use soft or 'leather hard' clay for modelling and hand-building and wet, slippery clay for throwing on the potters wheel .
Metal has many unique qualities - its attributes of strength, delicacy, malleability and toughness have led to its use across many art and design disciplines. On this course, you’ll be introduced to different metals and the techniques used to work them into sculptural pieces.
You will have the opportunity to work hands-on, constructing geometric and curved forms, creating decorative effects using pigment and you will learn how to replicate other materials and textures using Jesmonite.
Ideal for beginners looking to develop their skills, this course will cover: clay preparation, wedging techniques, centring clay on the wheel, throwing basic cylinders and moving on to different forms including- pinching, coiling, slabbing, creative use of moulds.
