A fall protection plan is a safety plan for workers in unprotected elevated work areas, generally at heights above two meters. The plan aims to provide a safe working environment and to administer the use of fall protection measures, techniques and equipment.

 It ensures standard practices designed to ensure that fall prevention training, procedure and practices are shared with all employees for implementation.

Fall protection plan are designed to ensure the safety of employees so as to prevent falls from heights at the workplace and It is prepared, altered, approved and implemented only by qualified persons. A copy of this plan should be kept ready and at hand at the job site.

At the end of the course the learner will be required to complete at his/her own time a fall protection and fall arrest plan and submit to Certified Training Solutions within an agreed timeframe which will form part of the Portfolio of Evidence (POE).

Learners wishing to acquire the competencies in this course will be people responsible for the safety and protection of people working at height where there is a risk of injury from a fall. The learner will be responsible for the safety of others performing tasks at height.

Qualifying learners are able to develop fall protection plans for people working at height, required by the Occupational Health and safety act (Act 85 of 1993).

 

Successful candidates credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Performing a risk assessment of the worksite where work is to be done at height.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of fall arrest rescue equipment and advanced fall arrest rescue.
  • Developing a fall protection plan and fall arrest plan.
  • Managing safety of personnel working at heights.
