Course Details

This course provides students with knowledge of basic work- place safety, an understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the skills needed to then apply key princi- ples in the workplace.

It will also provide an overview on the responsibilities of people in the workforce including steps to take to ensure the safety of themselves and others. Given a scenario students will be able to complete a job safety analysis.

 

Course Content

The course focuses on:

  • Health and Safety At Work Act 2015.
  • Principle systems.
  • Risk and hazard management.
  • Safe work practices.
  • Risk assessment.
  • Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Methods of communication in the workplace.

 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and describe legislative rights and responsibilities for workplace health and safety.
  • Describe the systems approach to workplace health and safety.
  • Explain how risks and hazards are defined in the HSWA 2015.
  • Identify the principles of workplace safety in a given workplace and demonstrate safe work practices in a specific workplace.
  • Complete a simple job safety analysis (JSA).

Competency in US 497, US 17593 and additional Job Safety Analysis component in this course at Wood Training will be accepted as meeting the hazard management prerequisite for our Common Permit to Work training.
