The Canadian Paediatric Society is the national association of paediatricians, committed to working together to advance the health of children and youth by nurturing excellence in health care, advocacy, education, research and support of its membership.

Who We Are

Founded in 1922, the CPS is a voluntary professional association that represents almost 4000 members, paediatric subspecialists, paediatric residents, and others who work with and care for children and youth.

The CPS is governed by an elected Board of Directors representing all provinces and territories.

What We Do

In 2017, we adopted a strategic framework that will focus our activities for the next five years on five key priority areas: early childhood development, mental health, First Nations, Inuit and Métis children and youth, paediatric drugs and therapeutics, and social paediatrics.

To fulfill its mission, the CPS is active in several major areas:

  • Professional education: The CPS supports the education needs of paediatricians and other child and youth health professionals through position statements, a peer-review journal, and educational opportunities such as an annual conference, online education and regional CME events.
  • Advocacy: The CPS works to identify gaps in and promote improvements to public policy that affects the health of children and youth.
  • Public education: The CPS works to help parents make informed decisions about their children’s health by producing reliable and accessible health information.
  • Surveillance and research: The CPS monitors rare diseases and conditions through the Canadian Paediatric Surveillance Program, and ensures continued research into vaccine-associated adverse reactions and vaccine-preventable diseases through IMPACT (Immunization Monitoring Program, ACTive).
