Although it is most commonly referred to as “KCI,” Kitchener–Waterloo Collegiate & Vocational School began as the Berlin Grammar School in 1855. Now, over 165 years later, KCI is truly an essential and integral part of Kitchener-Waterloo. The facility has seen significant change throughout those years – perhaps the most significant are the recent ION construction and service upgrades to King Street.
ONE KCI
We are known and recognized as a welcoming and inclusive school that supports and works diligently to include all. Together, students, staff, and community are “ONE KCI.” As part of ONE KCI, we fundraise money for a wide range of local and national charities. Each December our annual Community Dinner, organized entirely by students and supported by staff and parent volunteers as well as community partners, provides a hot meal, entertainment, and prizes to hundreds of challenged individuals from our community.
Our Students
At KCI, students develop as active, caring, engaged, and healthy members of a community in which they feel respected, responsible, and safe. Typical of a downtown core high school, our student body represents a broad range of socio-economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. Every year approximately 1500 students are registered at KCI.
Our Staff
Our staff is committed to ensuring that our school community has opportunities for all students to learn, share, and grow together. They are dedicated to facilitating meaningful activities both in the classroom and through a broad range of co-curricular activities.
