PIRS is more than just an immigrant and refugee services agency. We are a supportive community dedicated to empowering women to rise out of isolation and integrate into life in Canada. Our services are low-barrier, culturally relevant, and trauma-informed.
Our Mission, Vision, And Strategic Plan
We envision a society that honours the strengths of diverse women and empowers their contributions, and work with compassion, empathy, accountability and courage to achieve it.
Our Approach
We use an intersectional, integrated and trauma-informed approach to supporting newcomer women by addressing their identified needs and working with them to learn and address their unexpressed needs.
PIRS Land Acknowledgement And Commitment To Decolonization
As we support newcomers in building a life in Canada, we are committed to working in solidarity and collaboration with Indigenous communities and to learning from their wisdom and knowledge.
Our Impact
Our low-barrier trauma-informed programs and services support over 1000 immigrant and refugee women and children each year.
Our History
We are proud to have served our community for almost 50 years and are thankful for the women who put their trust in us, and the community members who make our ongoing work possible.
Recognition And Awards
We are grateful for the recognition we received over the years, that is a testament to the tireless work and dedication of PIRS staff, volunteers, Board Members and all our supporters.
We deliver the training in a workshop format, weaving together relevant theory and practical strategies that service providers can easily implement in community programs and other settings.
