The University of Victoria Sailing Club (UVSC) was re-established in September 2005 as a VIKES Recreation Sports Club by the head instructor, and sailing director (David Fagen) of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club (RVYC).
The sailing club used RVYC’s fleet of 420’s to run race team practices and sailing lessons until the Spring of 2008 when the club raised enough money to buy the University of Washington’s two year old fleet of six Collegiate FJ’s, and a motor boat.
The sailing club then moved into its current home, the UVic Sailing Compound. Since the spring of 2008, the sailing club has made several improvements to the compound, including building a new boat storage rack, adding gravel to mitigate flooding problems, and general improvements to the compound to make it a better place for everyone to spend their time.
The Sailing Club has continued their efforts and have added 2 more Collegiate FJ’s to the existing fleet and continue to be a competitive presence in NWICSA.
Our instructors are some of the best in Victoria, providing a fun and exciting environment, while maintaining safety on the water.Â
