This class is designed for inpatient and ambulatory nurses, monitor technicians, and cardiovascular lab technicians who use 12-lead ECGs in their clinical practice. This class will discuss:
the anatomy of a 12-lead ECG;
how ECG leads monitor electrical activity; and,
how to identify abnormalities such as ST elevation and depression, bundle branch blocks, and aberrancy.
Participants will practice with 12-lead ECG interpretation and developing a plan of care for a patient with a cardiac abnormality. Attendees should have a basic knowledge of rhythm recognition prior to attending.
The Virginia Mason Continuing Medical Education (CME) Department is committed to providing practical, up-to-date CME courses and lectures designed to support our professional colleagues in maintaining or improving their practice of medicine.
The electrocardiogram, or EKG, is a crucial piece of equipment used in hospitals and other facilities by certified technicians. The objective of the EKG Technician course is to provide graduates with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to qualify as an ECG/EKG Technician
This 4-hour course is for those clinicians who take care of or are transitioning into roles taking care of patients where recognition and knowledge of basic cardiac rhythms is essential.
EKG Technicians carry the responsibility of administering electrocardiogram tests, which help practitioners understand the state of a patient's heart. Technicians ensure proper electrode placement on the patient, record the EKG/ECG
EKG Technicians perform electrocardiograms and are one of the first people to assist patients experiencing cardiac symptoms. EKG Technicians are a critical member of the patient care team found in physician offices, emergency rooms, and hospital-based cardiology clinics across the country.
Students will learn about the cardiac and vascular systems, communication skills, human anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, patient care techniques, interpretation of monitoring and testing results and medical instrumentation.
