  • Hydraulic controls
  • Manoeuvring in open and confined areas
  • Changing attachments
  • Transportation

 

Knowledge

On completion of training on a 180° Excavator candidates will have a theoretical understanding of the following:

  • Responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974)and PUWER (1998), LOLER (1998) and (HSG 136) Workplace Transport Safety.
  • Manufacturers instructions
  • Pre-use checks
  • Factors affecting stability
  • Configure the excavator for site travel
  • Travel the excavator over various terrain
  • Manoeuvre excavator in open and confined areas
  • Set equipment to excavate
  • Excavate below ground in different ground types
  • Place spoil of various sizes
  • Grade spread and level different types of terrain
  • Attach and remove attachments (including use of quick-hitch where applicable)
  • Safe parking, re-fuelling and post-stop checks
  • Explain transportation procedures     

 

Skills

On completion of training on a 180° Excavator the candidate will be able to:

  • Drive the excavator safely and efficiently
  • Excavate below ground differing ground types
  • Carry out pre-use checks to ensure the equipment is in a safe condition
  • Grade spread and level in different types of terrain
  • Remove and attach attachments
  • Correctly park, shut-down and secure the excavator
  • Carry out post-stop inspection
  • Safe extraction from soft ground
  • Transportation procedures
