3D printing is currently at the forefront of advanced prototyping and model making. It allows the user to print parts, models and figures with relative ease, reducing costs and making time
This 1 hour induction uses a combination of taught demonstration and hands on practice to allow you to gain an understanding of 3D printing.
3D printing is currently at the forefront of advanced prototyping and model making. It allows the user to print parts, models and figures with relative ease, reducing costs and making time.
During this short training course, you will learn the basics, starting with choosing a 3D model from our pre-approved library. You will then be guided through the 3D print process; using the software, loading the printer with material and finally printing a model. Once inducted, you to come and use the 3D printers in the FabLab whenever you need.
FabLab Cardiff is located in Cardiff Metropolitan University's School of Art and Design. It is an open access digital workshop where you can use a range of fabrication technologies to turn your ideas into reality.
We are a professional design and make service offering bespoke manufacturing and prototyping capabilities to commercial clients and small businesses.
What We Do
Want a space to explore your ideas and tinker with desktop manufacturing technologies?
FabLab Cardiff is an open access workshop. That’s right. Open access. All you have to do is attend inductions for the machines you intend to use to make sure that you know what you’re doing, and then you’re free to come in during our opening times and use the machines at your leisure.
Or do you have a project that requires professional manufacturing expertise?
Thanks to our capable staff, we’re able to offer a range of professional services, from CAD work to prototype manufacture. We’ve created shop fit-outs, kitchens, staircases, moulds, sensors, trophies, and a lot more.
Get creative on our 3D modelling and 3D printing courses and explore new exciting technologies and software for 3-dimensional design. We offer a range of introductory to intermediate courses
This course is aimed at business leaders, decision makers and anyone with an interest in discussing Additive Manufacturing (AM) with the nation’s experts. Anyone who is considering integrating Industrial 3D printing into their manufacturing processes will find this course particularly interesting...
A one day workshop that will introduce you to the world of 3D solid modelling. 3D solid modelling is the process of designing an object that can be manufactured using a range of hi-tech manufacturing processes.
On the course, you will learn the basics of digital 3D modelling and sculpting of your own objects, using free and beginner's accessible 3D software. You will get the chance to create your own digital designs, and learn how to manipulate existing 3D models
This course will take participants through the basics of learning how to work with 3D data, either collected with 3D scanners or created using CAD, with usable output projects using 3D printing.
