Course Details

Supervisors and other employees involved in the mounting, changing and safe use of Abrasive Wheels. The course will cover both the theoretical and practical aspects associated with the safe handling and mounting of abrasive wheels, in line with the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98).

 

Target Group:

  • The practical instruction given will be based on the respective class or classes of the abrasive wheel which the appointed person has been nominated to handle.

 

Course Contents:

  • Prevent and minimise the number of accidents arising from the use of abrasive wheels.

  • Demonstrate an awareness of the hazards, and the precautions, required to minimise injuries.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of methods of marking abrasive wheels (type, size an maximum operating speeds)

  • Demonstrate knowledge of storage and handling.

  • Inspect and test abrasive wheels for danger.  Identify components used with abrasive wheels and their functions.

  • Assemble abrasive wheels correctly

  • Demonstrate proper methods of dressing an abrasive wheel

  • Correctly adjust the work rest on pedestal or bench grinding machines

  • Use suitable personal protective equipment

 

Additional measures to be take during COVID-19 Virus Working

  • To be read in conjunction with Site Specific Risk Assessment for Tasks (Usual Work Place Risk Assessments) associated with the Well Being of Workers

 

Site Induction:

  • Attend All Inductions required by the customer, but ask that they are conducted with the Social Distancing guidelines maintained.

Access / egress to site:

Ensure you enter the building through the main reception doors/ main entrance each morning. Attend any customer Temperature Checks requirements (hand held infra-red or similar remote reader), optional at the end of each day. At the entrance to the customer Buildings ensure hands are sanitised/ are washed immediately supplied at the entrance, or using the hand held sanitiser that is carried by personnel.  Any personnel with a temperature of 38 Degrees Celsius or Higher will be asked to leave site and to return home – their temperature must then be monitored from there.

Welfare arrangements:

Ensure social distancing at all times and fit in with the customer requirements. Ideally take breaks in your own vehicle. Cooking on site to be prohibited during this interim period, staff can consume home prepared food and warm food at work. Comply with any 2m social distancing marks/ measures.
