Course Details

Nearly half of all accidents involving abrasive wheels are due to an unsafe system of work or operator error.  This abrasive wheel’s safety training course advises on precautions you can take to prevent accidents in the use of abrasive wheels, in particular injury resulting from either wheel breakage or contact with a running wheel. Its usefulness is widespread – in the construction and foundry industries and in engineering generally.

This training course is mandatory to all workshop personnel involved in the adjusting, assembling, and changing of abrasive wheels.

 

Syllabus:

  • Related Legislation

  • Safety in the use of abrasive wheels

  • The correct use of PPE.

  • Hazards arising from use of abrasive wheels.

  • Methods of marking abrasive wheels.

  • Methods of storing, handling & transporting of abrasive wheels.

  • Mounting procedures & precautions of abrasive wheels.

  • Safe use of the machines and equipment.

t’s advised to wear respiratory protection when using abrasive wheels due to the dangers of inhaling dust and debris both from the material being cut and the abrasive wheel itself.

Regulation 7 COSHH States any tight fitting face piece must be face fit tested. The qualitative test we offer is suitable for up to ffp3 half masks. Please enquire about this service.

The Face Fit test takes approx. 15mins per person so allocate 1.5 hours for this. That’s a total of 5.5 hrs max including training. As each candidate completes their face fit test they are welcome to go.

 

Certification:

On completion delegates will receive a hand out as well as a certificate. Candidates are required to pass a small theory assessment at the end as well as practically demonstrate the fitting of discs etc.
