Course Details

The purpose of this CABWI Endorsed abrasive wheels training is to give instruction on precautions for the prevention of accidents in the use of abrasive wheels, in particular injury resulting from either wheel breakage or contact with a running wheel.

For the duties of those people using abrasive wheels to be fully understood, the guidance should be read in conjunction with the PUWER Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) There is no substitute for thorough practical training in all aspects of the mounting and use of abrasive wheels.

Course designed for

All staff identified as having abrasive wheels activities as one of their job roles

Course pre-requisites

Learners are required to be 16 years of age or above.

 

Course content

  • Recognise and state the statutory requirements and relevant approved codes and guidance documents
  • Identify safe systems of work
  •  Understand unsafe working practices and causes of abrasive wheels accidents
  • Identify abrasive wheels characteristics (Markings & codes)
  •  Understand grinding machines
  • Understand mounting of abrasive wheels and correct procedures
  • Understand correct guarding of abrasive wheels
  •  Understand portable electrical or fixed abrasive wheels machines (whatever is applicable)
  • Correctly operate & use portable electrical or fixed abrasive wheels machines safely in line with manufacturers specifications & approved codes (whatever is applicable)
  •  Select & use correct PPE when using abrasive wheels machines

Course Qualification

CABWI Endorsed Abrasive Wheels Mounting & Safe Operations is a regulated qualification put together by HSCT then endorsed by CABWI, our awarding body

Endorsed Certification (issued by CABWI)

Skill identity card (issued by HSCT)

Refresher Training

Refresher training is required every 3 years  (training and assessment)

  • Practical assessment on mounting the abrasive wheels
  • Practical assessment on correct guarding positions of the abrasive wheels
